Rare Burmese Dragon in hardwood with vigilant crystal eyes. The bird on its tail suggests Hindu influence, presumably from Arakan, the Burmese state bordering the Bay of Bengal. Presumably 17th-18th Century. The mystical animal is possibly of an earlier period. The dragon’s legendary mission was probably to guard the entrance of a temple. (Click here to see closeup.)
