Chinese Bamboo Brush Pot

A Chinese brush pot crafted from a superb piece of bamboo, beautifully carved in relief are horses grazing under a Huangshan pine tree.
In recent decades a coat of brown lacquer was applied to the pot to freshen the patina of time. The disaster scraped off with great care resulted in exposing the lovely grain and colour of the ancient bamboo. The bottom and interior are testimony of its antiquity. Presumably early Ch’ing Dynasty.

Chinese  Rosewood Carvings

Two Chinese carvings in Rosewood mounted on Perspex makes an attractive art piece. The upper carving with Chinese characters was originally the back of a chair. The main character is Sou, a word that is bestowed on people over sixty when they celebrate their birthday. The other characters represent longevity, wisdom and luck. The curved piece is decorated with China’s national flower Mei Hua (Plum Blossom), and birds. 18th – 19th Century. Unique.

Ancient Chinese Honey Jar

Chinese honey jar of ancient times, in a rich translucent caramel glaze and bamboo design handles. The lower lip at the neck of the jar is a water trough to prevent insects from getting to the nectar. The superb jar still holds the fragrance of honey of the bees of South China. The four marks translated are believed to read Tao Hai Bin Chan Tao Hai Bin Chan or Pottery Seaside Chan, most probably the place of origin. Presumably 18th – 19th Century.
